What Plumelore is, and why we built it
Plumelore is a backyard birding resource for people who feed birds: a feeder on the deck, a bird bath in the garden, hummingbirds showing up every summer. If you want to do right by them, this site is for you.
Plenty of backyard birding content skips the basics, like which feeder leaks, which bath cracks in winter and which seed mix most birds leave on the ground. Our guides start from manufacturer specifications, owner reviews across retail platforms and enthusiast communities, and guidance from established birding organizations.
We do not run hands-on tests and we do not claim to. We tell you where each fact comes from, and where owners disagree, we say so.
We do not take money to recommend products, and affiliate commissions do not change which products earn a spot in our guides. For full details, read our affiliate disclosure.
The team
Plumelore is produced by the Plumelore Team, an editorial group. We do not claim ornithology credentials or professional wildlife expertise. We read the research, compare the specs and weigh what owners report.
What we cover
Our content is organized into four areas, each built around the questions birders ask most.
Hummingbirds
Feeders, nectar ratios, timing, and everything else that determines whether hummingbirds show up and stay. See our hummingbird guides.
Backyard Birds
Feeders for every species and situation, from window feeders to squirrel-proof setups, plus the poles and baffles that hold it all together. Browse our backyard bird guides.
Bird Baths
Standard baths, heated baths for winter, placement tips, and what actually keeps water clean. Explore our bird bath guides.
Seed and Suet
Which seeds attract which birds, how to minimize waste, and which suet feeders hold up in real weather. Check out our seed and suet guides.
How we make recommendations
Every buying guide on Plumelore follows the same process. We research the product category, map the options against what birders consistently report in owner reviews, cross-reference manufacturer specs, and weigh what matters most for backyard use. Where owner consensus is split, we say so. Where a budget option matches a premium one on the specs owners care about, we say that too.
We use affiliate links to keep the site funded. Those links cost you nothing extra and are placed only on products we would feel comfortable recommending to a friend. You can read more about how that works in our affiliate disclosure.
